Trudy Hannon’s passion for roller derby all started at the school gate. It was fellow mum, Kyla “Dutch Courage" Sinclair, who asked the fateful question, that would eventually set One Woman’s wheels in motion - "Hey Trudy, wanna do roller derby?"
The two motivated mums teamed up and, in March 2010 the Swamp City Roller Rats emerged ready to kick butt and take names as Palmerston North’s very own roller derby league. Friendship and support from Mountain City Rollers, MonsterMama and medic8tor, meant the world to the Rats in those early days. Richter City were the Rats Freshmeat Mistresses - could it get any better than that for a Rat?
But it wasn’t all smooth skating. Like other Kiwi women, options for ordering skates meant going off shore to the US of A or across the ditch to Aussie. This meant forking out for freight, waiting for them to get through customs and being stung with GST. Trudy, thought to herself, “there just has to be a better way”. So, armed with the crazy notion that she could be that better way, she set about contacting manufacturers of the world’s finest quality skate products.
Manufacturers were stoked to hear from such a savvy Kiwi and it wasn’t long before she was trading as One Woman 8 Wheels - Importer of the world’s finest quality roller skate products.
One Woman 8 Wheels removes the hassle factor. There’s no sitting on the sidelines waiting for your skates to arrive. One Woman’s here, she cares and she’s got the right gear so, whether you’re freshmeat or more advanced, get in touch. No question’s a stupid question and no woman should be without wheels.
